A living map of systems-level ecological questions.
The Field Map is a living cartography of systems-level ecological questions. Rather than organizing papers into fixed disciplinary categories, it maps recurring questions and conceptual relationships across ecological systems. Papers may belong to multiple coordinates, and the map will evolve as new questions, connections, and contributions emerge.
Organization and emergence
Questions concerning how ecological interactions generate collective organization, how system-level properties emerge across levels of organization, and how constraints and feedbacks shape ecological systems.
Energy, matter, and information
Questions concerning ecological flows, energetic constraints, material transformations, information, signaling, and the organization of ecosystem function.
Persistence and fragility
Questions concerning resilience, robustness, stability, collapse, critical transitions, and the conditions under which ecological organization persists or fails.
Recovery and transformation
Questions concerning restoration, succession, ecosystem recovery, ecological reorganization, transformation, and trajectories following disturbance.
Scaling and levels
Questions concerning ecological organization across scales and levels, spatial structure, hierarchies, body size, macroecological patterns, and cross-scale constraints.
